Delhi Minister Involved in Controversial Slap Incident Over Road Quality

A recent incident in Delhi’s Tilak Nagar area has drawn significant attention after a minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was filmed slapping a local man during a dispute over road conditions. The minister, Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, allegedly struck the individual, who is believed to be associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), following a heated exchange regarding the quality of the roads in the region.

The incident occurred when the man, identified as Saheb, arrived at the scene after being summoned by the Public Works Department for an inspection. As Saheb pointed out sections of the road that were deteriorating, tensions escalated, leading to Verma grabbing his mobile phone and slapping him. A video of the incident, which was released by the AAP, shows police officers attempting to defuse the situation as it unfolded.

Jarnail Singh, the local MLA and a member of the AAP, expressed his dismay at the incident, indicating that Verma’s actions were inappropriate given the serious nature of the complaints regarding road quality. He highlighted that rather than engaging in a constructive discussion about the issues at hand, Verma resorted to physical aggression. The incident has since prompted calls for accountability and action against the minister.

In response to the altercation, former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal condemned the act, suggesting that the slap was a reaction to Saheb’s efforts to unveil corruption related to road construction projects in the city. The AAP has since demanded Verma’s arrest, framing the incident as emblematic of a broader issue of governmental accountability and transparency.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also weighed in, critiquing the BJP government and framing the encounter as a reflection of a power structure that is increasingly unresponsive to the public’s grievances. The incident not only highlights the ongoing tensions between political parties in Delhi but also raises questions about the standards of political conduct expected from public officials.
