Suspension of Greater Noida Executive Magistrate Followed Student’s Protest Notice Controversy

The recent suspension of a Greater Noida executive magistrate has stirred significant discussion following an incident involving a law student and a protest notice. The magistrate, who issued a show-cause notice to Akshat Tripathi, a 20-year-old law student from Gautam Buddh University, faced backlash for his actions, which were deemed excessive and questionable by legal experts and the public alike.

According to reports, the magistrate’s notice demanded that Tripathi secure a personal bond of Rs 5 lakh. This action came after local police accused the student of instigating fellow students to participate in a protest organized by the Cockroach Janata Party. The notice claimed that Tripathi was allegedly spreading misleading statements intended to provoke unrest among the university community, potentially disrupting public peace.

In defense, Tripathi highlighted that he had been absent from his university for the past three months, asserting that he was engaged in work at the Allahabad High Court during July. He questioned the validity of the allegations against him, stating, “How could I go to the university and provoke people?” This defense raised serious concerns about the grounds on which the magistrate issued the notice.

The situation escalated when Tripathi appealed against the notice, prompting an investigation into the magistrate’s decision. Following scrutiny, the notice was rescinded the very next day, reflecting the authorities’ acknowledgment of the potential overreach involved in the initial action.

The matter captured significant attention during a court hearing, where Chief Justice Surya Kant urged that the notice be formally presented before the court.
