Local authorities revealed that the structure was aged between 40 to 50 years, raising serious questions about its safety and structural integrity. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud noise just before the collapse, followed by panic as people attempted to flee the premises.

Delhi’s Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, visited the site on Sunday evening, expressing her condolences to the bereaved families and announcing a magisterial inquiry to investigate the incident thoroughly. Gupta made it clear that accountability would be enforced: “Whoever is responsible for this tragedy—be it the building owner or any government official—will face consequences,” she stated from a nearby temple, where she had taken refuge during her visit.

She emphasized the urgency of the rescue operations, stating, “Our priority is to save the lives of these children first. All officials are present here, and there will be no shortage of any kind in this effort.” Gupta’s comments reflect the broader concerns regarding building safety in densely populated urban areas like Delhi, especially where accommodations for students are concerned.

The incident has reignited discussions about the need for stricter enforcement of building regulations and inspections, particularly for older structures that may not meet current safety standards.
