BJP Agent Arrested in Jharkhand for Allegedly Attempting to Remove Muslim Voters

In a controversial incident in the Godda district of Jharkhand, a booth-level agent affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been arrested for allegedly attempting to delete the names of Muslim voters from the electoral rolls. The agent, identified as Vinay Kumar Mandal, was taken into custody on September 3 and subsequently released on bail within hours.

The situation arose during a special intensive revision exercise currently being conducted in the state, aimed at updating the electoral rolls. A complaint was lodged against Mandal by Mukarram Ansari, a local voter, who claimed that Mandal submitted around 200 Form 7 applications to the booth-level officer, all targeting Muslim voters at a single polling booth. Ansari asserted that these applications were submitted against legitimate voters who were not ineligible to vote.

According to reports, the booth-level officer, Sajida Bibi, confirmed that both her name and that of her husband were included in the applications submitted by Mandal. This has raised serious questions about the intentions behind the mass submission of these forms. Mandal reportedly stated that he was instructed to deliver the forms to the officer, suggesting that he acted under direction rather than independently.

The incident has sparked significant debate regarding the integrity of the electoral process in Jharkhand, especially against a backdrop of rising concerns about electoral manipulation and the potential marginalization of minority communities. Critics have pointed to this case as an example of how political affiliations can lead to the misuse of administrative processes to undermine the democratic rights of citizens.
