Tragic Assault: Muslim Truck Driver Succumbs to Injuries After Attack by Kanwariyas in Uttar Pradesh

In a disturbing incident from Hapur district in Uttar Pradesh, a 24-year-old Muslim truck driver named Azeem Ali has died four days after suffering severe injuries in an assault by a group of kanwariyas. The incident transpired on July 31, following a road accident involving Ali’s truck and an auto-rickshaw that was being used by the kanwariyas in Garhmukhteshwar town.

The collision reportedly led to the auto-rickshaw driver, identified as Farman, sustaining injuries, which escalated into a heated argument. In a shocking turn of events, Ali was dragged from his vehicle and brutally assaulted by the group. Eyewitness accounts and a video that has circulated on social media depict the assault occurring in broad daylight, with a police officer present at the scene, raising serious concerns about the law enforcement’s role in the incident.

Initially, Ali was rushed to a hospital in Meerut for immediate treatment. However, as his condition deteriorated, he was subsequently transferred to a medical facility in Delhi. Unfortunately, after slipping into a coma, he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, bringing a tragic end to a violent episode that has triggered outrage among local communities and beyond.

A first information report (FIR) has been filed against seven individuals, including four kanwariyas, in connection with Ali’s death. The accused, identified as Manish, Ankit, Lokesh, Shivam, and Farman, along with two unidentified individuals, face charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder, rioting, and causing bodily harm. As of now, no arrests have been made, prompting the Hapur Police to act on the basis of a formal complaint lodged regarding the incident.
