Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the urgency of monitoring demographic changes in border districts during a conference held in Delhi on Thursday. He stated that local authorities must promptly report any population growth influenced by ‘abnormal factors,’ particularly referencing concerns over undocumented migration.
Shah articulated the Indian government’s firm commitment to combating unnatural population growth resultant from such factors. He declared, “The Modi government is resolute in adopting a stringent stance against demographic alterations that arise from irregular influences.” This was part of his address at the Land Border Districts’ Superintendents of Police Conference, which was attended by high-ranking officials, including police officers from 119 border districts and intelligence representatives.
Highlighting the complexities of demographic shifts, Shah introduced the Demography Mission, which aims to analyze these changes, identify contributing factors, and propose preventive measures. He pointed out that infiltration remains the primary driver of these demographic transformations in border regions. “To fortify border security and make it impenetrable, we have established a quadrangular security framework, shifting India’s strategy from a reactive to a proactive stance,” he added.
During the conference, Shah underscored the government’s ongoing efforts to create a robust system that will eliminate infiltration entirely. He expressed confidence that the discussions held would lead to a structured and comprehensive strategy for enhancing border security. Furthermore, he indicated that similar methodologies would soon be applied to coastal security, ensuring an overarching approach to safeguarding India’s borders.
The conference not only aimed at boosting collaboration among various security agencies but also sought to reinforce the commitment of the administration towards maintaining the sovereignty and integrity of the nation. Shah’s remarks resonate with the government’s focus on national security and the need for vigilance in areas prone to demographic changes.
