Snana Yatra Celebrated with Religious Fervour at Digha Jagannath Temple Ahead of Rath Yatra

The sacred Snana Yatra, one of the most significant rituals associated with Lord Jagannath, was celebrated with great devotion and religious fervour at the Jagannath Temple in Digha on Monday. Alongside the grand celebrations at the revered Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha, devotees in West Bengal also gathered in large numbers to witness the special ceremonies.

As part of the traditional rituals, the idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra were ceremonially bathed with sacred water in accordance with centuries-old customs. The ritual marks an important milestone in the annual religious calendar leading up to the world-famous Rath Yatra.

According to Hindu tradition, after the ceremonial bath on Snana Yatra, Lord Jagannath is believed to fall ill and enters a period of seclusion known as Anasara, which lasts for about fifteen days. During this period, the deities remain away from public view as they are believed to be recuperating. Following this sacred interval, Lord Jagannath reappears before devotees and embarks on the grand Rath Yatra, symbolising his divine journey among the people.

The Digha Jagannath Temple witnessed elaborate rituals, devotional chants, and a steady stream of devotees throughout the day. Temple authorities made special arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the ceremonies and facilitate the participation of worshippers.

With the successful observance of Snana Yatra, preparations have now intensified for the upcoming Rath Yatra, one of the most celebrated Hindu festivals, eagerly awaited by millions of devotees across India.
