The Lucknow Police have apprehended four individuals linked to a devastating fire incident in the Aliganj neighborhood that resulted in the tragic deaths of 15 people. The fire, which broke out in a multi-purpose building, has sparked significant outrage and concern regarding safety regulations in commercial establishments.
According to reports, the arrested individuals include Ramakrishna Upadhyay, the owner of a pet shop located within the premises, Virendra Prasad Shukla, the landlord of the building, Tushok Krishna Jaiswal, who operated a game development office there, and Suresh Kumar Sahu, who rented the upper floors of the structure. In addition, the police have filed a first information report (FIR) against six named suspects, with two of them currently evading arrest.
The fire erupted in a mixed-use building that housed various businesses, including a pet shop, a library, and a gaming studio. The incident has prompted the local authorities to investigate potential negligence and violations of safety protocols that might have contributed to the high casualty figure. An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code concerning culpable homicide not amounting to murder and reckless acts that endangered lives, as well as under the Uttar Pradesh Fire Service Act.
To ensure thorough investigation, the case has been assigned to a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which has been instructed to submit its report within a week. This incident has led to broader discussions about fire safety standards in commercial buildings across Uttar Pradesh. In response to the tragedy, the Uttar Pradesh government has suspended four officials, including Gaurav Kumar, an executive engineer from the electricity department, indicating that systemic failures may have played a role in the incident.
As the investigation unfolds, the community is left grappling with grief and anger, demanding accountability and justice for the victims. The tragic loss of life has reignited calls for stricter enforcement of fire safety laws, underscoring a need for comprehensive reforms to prevent such calamities in the future.
