The Shiv Sena faction led by Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray has launched disciplinary actions against six of its Lok Sabha MPs for their absence from a crucial parliamentary party meeting held in New Delhi on Thursday. This decision underscores the party’s commitment to maintaining discipline among its ranks, particularly as it navigates a challenging political landscape.
The MPs who are facing scrutiny for not adhering to party directives are Nagesh Aashtikar, Sanjay Deshmukh, Sanjay Jadhav, Sanjay Dina Patil, Omprakash Rajenimbalkar, and Bhausaheb Wakchaure. In a statement, the party indicated that it has issued formal notices to these members, granting them a period of seven days to respond. Should they fail to offer a satisfactory explanation, the party may escalate its actions, potentially leading to more severe consequences.
Out of the party’s total nine Lok Sabha MPs, only three were present at the meeting, which was convened by party leader Arvind Sawant and chief whip Anil Desai. The absence of the six MPs has been characterized by Sanjay Raut, the party’s sole Rajya Sabha member, as an act of disobedience against the party’s directives. Raut emphasized the importance of adhering to party protocol and hinted at possible repercussions, including the cancellation of membership for the absent MPs.
The current disciplinary action comes at a time of significant speculation regarding the political alignments within the Uddhav Sena’s parliamentary wing. There are concerns that a faction of these MPs may consider siding with Eknath Shinde, who leads a rival faction of the Shiv Sena. This internal discord could have serious implications for the party’s unity and its standing in the wider Maharashtra political landscape.
As Maharashtra continues to witness dramatic shifts in political allegiance, the actions taken by Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) reflect an effort to maintain cohesion and discipline within its ranks. The outcomes of these disciplinary proceedings may not only impact the careers of the involved MPs but also the future trajectory of the party in an increasingly competitive political environment.
