The Enforcement Directorate (ED) intensified its scrutiny of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Deepak Singla on Monday, launching searches at various locations linked to him and others in connection with a money laundering case associated with a bank loan fraud. The operations are reportedly taking place in both Delhi and Goa, as confirmed by sources from the agency.
According to officials, searches in Goa focus on a residence where members of AAP’s organizational team are reportedly residing. This move has elicited strong reactions from party leaders, particularly from Atishi, a prominent AAP figure and former Chief Minister of Delhi. She accused the ED of acting as a “loyal foot-soldier” for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), suggesting that the raids are politically motivated, aimed at undermining the growing influence of AAP in Goa.
Atishi took to social media to express her concerns about the raids, asserting that the actions of the ED were not merely legal but also an attempt to intimidate AAP volunteers and gather sensitive organizational information for the BJP. “From early this morning, the ED is conducting raids at the home of Deepak Singla, AAP’s Goa co-incharge, as well as at the residences of several volunteers in the region,” she wrote, emphasizing the timing of the raids coinciding with AAP’s rising profile in Goa.
This incident highlights the mounting tensions between AAP and the central government, particularly as AAP seeks to expand its presence beyond Delhi. The party’s growing popularity in Goa has been a focal point in recent political discussions, and the ED’s involvement has raised questions about the intersection of politics and law enforcement in India.
As Goa prepares for its electoral battles, AAP’s leadership remains defiant, viewing these raids as an attempt to stifle their political momentum. Supporters of AAP are rallying around their leaders, who argue that such actions are indicative of a broader strategy to intimidate opposition parties.
