India Urges Bangladesh to Expedite Nationality Verification for Migrants Amid Border Tensions

In a recent statement, India’s Ministry of External Affairs emphasized the need for Bangladesh to accelerate the process of verifying the nationality of undocumented Bangladeshi migrants. This comes in light of the ongoing challenges faced in repatriating these individuals, with over 2,862 cases still pending, some for more than five years.

Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry, articulated India’s expectations during a media briefing. He underscored the importance of a smooth repatriation process, suggesting that cooperation from the Bangladeshi government is crucial in handling these migration issues. On a different political front, in Tamil Nadu, the leader of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Thol Thirumavalavan, revealed that Vijay, the head of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has been seeking alliances to potentially form a government in the state.
