In a concerning development amidst rising tensions in the West Asian region, three Indian nationals sustained injuries during a drone attack on an industrial site in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, on Monday. This incident highlights the escalating conflict surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway for global oil shipments.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) responded swiftly, labeling the drone assault as “unacceptable” and urging for an immediate halt to hostilities. On Tuesday, the MEA emphasized India’s longstanding stance advocating for dialogue and diplomacy as the means to resolve conflicts in the region. The spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, reiterated the importance of ensuring free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz as per international law.
In a coordinated effort to support the injured, the Indian embassy in Abu Dhabi is actively working with local authorities to secure medical treatment for the affected citizens. The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the drone attack, categorizing it as a severe escalation and a threat to national security. They asserted that 15 missiles and three drones, purportedly launched from Iran, were intercepted by their air defense systems.
Footage from the scene captured the aftermath of the attack, which occurred at an oil facility in Fujairah, revealing the extent of the damage caused by the drone strike. However, Iranian state media reports disputed claims of Iranian involvement, further complicating the narrative surrounding the attack.
The recent escalation underscores the fragile geopolitical landscape in the region, where the Strait of Hormuz remains a vital artery for global commerce. The Indian government’s call for peace and stability reflects its ongoing commitment to safeguarding the interests of its citizens abroad while navigating the complex dynamics of international relations.
