Rahul Gandhi and Two MPs Charged for Allegedly Insulting Hindu Sentiments During Protest

The protest took place on Friday, involving members of the INDIA alliance, which includes Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and others. During the demonstration, the MPs staged a theatrical performance, where they mimicked the act of donating money to a donation box. Independent MP Pappu Yadav, dressed in traditional saffron attire, portrayed a character who appeared to pocket the donations, which drew significant attention.

Subsequent to the protest, a first information report (FIR) was filed at the Kotwali police station against Rahul Gandhi, Pappu Yadav, and Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad. The charges against them stem from allegations of intentionally and maliciously offending religious sentiments, as described in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The complaint was lodged by Jagadguru Balak Das, the leader of Patalpuri Math, a prominent Hindu religious institution.

The controversy comes amid ongoing scrutiny of the Ram temple donation embezzlement case, which has recently garnered attention. A newly formed special investigation team is currently delving into the alleged misappropriation of funds that were intended for the temple, further complicating the political landscape surrounding the issue.
