Hit-and-Run Near SVNIT College Raises Questions Over Police Conduct
A journalist was reportedly injured after being struck by a moped near SVNIT College in Surat. According to police records, the accused, Devansh Bansal, allegedly fled the scene following the incident.
Police registered a case at Umra Police Station under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and the Indian Penal Code before taking the accused into custody.
Subsequently, allegations emerged regarding the handling of the accused while in custody. According to preliminary reports, the accused was allegedly seen moving freely outside the Piplod police post under the supervision of Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) R. V. Chaudhary. The reported incident has raised questions about compliance with custody protocols and government guidelines.
Separately, a Police Sub-Inspector has reportedly been suspended over allegations of extending preferential treatment to the accused and his family during the investigation. Authorities have not publicly disclosed the full findings of the departmental inquiry.
Officials are expected to conduct a detailed investigation into both the hit-and-run case and the allegations concerning police conduct. The departmental proceedings against the suspended officer are separate from the criminal investigation into the accident.
