Kolkata, June 21: International Yoga Day was celebrated on a grand scale across West Bengal on Saturday, with Kolkata’s iconic Red Road witnessing a record turnout of participants. The large-scale event drew thousands of yoga enthusiasts, students, fitness groups, and members of the public who gathered early in the morning to take part in the mass yoga session.
Adding significance to the occasion, both the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, were present in Kolkata to mark the observance of International Yoga Day.
According to organizers and officials, the event at Red Road recorded one of the highest attendances ever seen for a Yoga Day programme in the state. Participants from different age groups performed various yoga asanas and breathing exercises under the guidance of trained instructors.
The programme was conducted amid elaborate security arrangements and special logistical preparations to accommodate the large gathering. Authorities described the event as a celebration of health, wellness, and the growing popularity of yoga as a means of promoting physical and mental well-being.
The enthusiastic participation of citizens and the presence of prominent leaders made this year’s International Yoga Day celebration in Kolkata a memorable and landmark occasion.
