Kolkata: On the occasion of International Yoga Day, the West Bengal Government has organised a special programme on a large scale this year. According to administrative sources, the seven-day event will be held around Kolkata’s Red Road and is being considered one of the biggest yoga events in the state.
Special arrangements have been made for the security and surveillance of the programme. As per the administration’s plan, around 3,000 drones will be deployed during the event to conduct aerial monitoring across several important areas of Kolkata. The technology will be used to oversee security-related aspects and help manage crowds, sources said.
Government sources claim that the country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi may attend the programme, and security arrangements have been strengthened further considering his possible presence. However, the final schedule regarding the Prime Minister’s programme will be officially announced by the concerned authorities.
Meanwhile, efforts have been made to ensure participation from various government departments, educational institutions, and other organisations to make the event successful. According to several sources, government employees and representatives of multiple institutions have been instructed or encouraged to attend the yoga camp.
The state government has said that the main objective of the programme is to increase public awareness about the benefits of yoga and spread the message of healthy living. Organisers expect that with the participation of a large number of people, this year’s International Yoga Day event may create a significant record.
However, discussions have started in various circles regarding the participation of government employees and members of other institutions. Different opinions have also emerged on the issue. The administration has stated that the programme is being organised entirely with the aim of promoting public health and physical well-being.
Special traffic and security arrangements will be implemented in and around Red Road in connection with International Yoga Day, according to administrative sources.
