Special athletes becoming role models for society through determination/Parmjit Sachdeva

Students of J.S.S. Asha Kiran Special School, Jahan khelan, were honored by the Punjab government with cash awards for their outstanding performances at the Special Olympics Bharat National Championships 2024. These athletes competed at national-level events across various sports, bringing distinction to their school, district and the state of Punjab.
The Special Olympics Bharat National Championships were held at different venues across the country between January and April 2024, and featured athletes with special needs from all over India showcasing their talent and sporting skills.
At the award ceremony, Parmjit Singh Sachdeva, Area Director of Special Olympics Bharat, Punjab Chapter, lauded the athletes for their extraordinary achievements. He said that athletes with special needs serve as sources of inspiration for society through their hard work, self-confidence and unwavering determination. He encouraged them to continue with the same dedication, discipline and effort to achieve new successes at national and international levels.
Players from J.S.S. Asha Kiran Special School secured top positions across various events, winning first, second and third places and bringing pride to the institution. During the prize distribution, the athletes’ hard work, commitment and accomplishments were praised.
Five students from the school Sonia, Kunal Sethi, Rohit Kumar, Sunny Kumar and Gagandeep Singh were awarded a total cash prize of Rs. 50,000 for their exemplary performances. Present at the ceremony were Engineer Harbans Singh, president of Asha Deep Welfare Society; Colonel Gurmeet Singh, secretary; school principal Mrs. Sheli Sharma; Ram Asa; Mrs. Anjana, sports director of the District Special Olympics Association (DSOA); vice-principal Indu Bala; and the school’s teachers and staff.
