In a significant escalation of tensions in Jharkhand, police have filed a first information report (FIR) against 300 unidentified individuals following a protest that turned violent on Monday. The demonstration, primarily led by students, aimed to voice concerns over alleged irregularities in competitive exams for state government jobs. According to reports from PTI, the Jharkhand Police took this action after the peaceful protest evolved into a chaotic situation, resulting in damage to government property and clashes with law enforcement.
Ranchi’s Superintendent of Police, Paras Rana, confirmed that the FIR was lodged for disrupting public order and attacking police personnel during the march towards the Jharkhand Assembly. The police are currently working to identify the individuals involved by reviewing video footage from the incident, as stated by Neeraj Kumar, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Hatia.
The protests, which began on July 25, have been part of a larger movement against perceived mismanagement of national competitive examinations. The demonstrators have been actively staging sit-ins at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi and mobilizing large crowds in their quest for justice. On the day of the march, thousands of protesters attempted to breach barricades to reach the Assembly, despite the police’s use of lathi charges and tear gas to disperse the crowd. Reports indicate that several protestors sustained injuries during these confrontations.
Among the primary demands of the protesters is the cancellation of the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission Combined Preliminary Test, which took place on April 19. They allege that the examination process was marred by irregularities, and they seek accountability from the authorities. The situation remains tense, with students and other stakeholders closely monitoring the developments.
The clash at the Jharkhand Assembly is a reflection of the growing unrest among the youth regarding employment opportunities and the integrity of recruitment processes in the state. As protests continue, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to the escalating demands of the students and whether further actions will be taken to restore order.
