Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge Accuses BJP of Ritual Insult at Haldwani Rally

In a striking allegation, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has claimed that members affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) conducted a purification ritual at the site in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, where he delivered a speech on August 8. During a session in the Rajya Sabha, Kharge expressed his outrage over this act, which he described as both an insult to his dignity and a breach of democratic values.

Kharge, who holds the position of Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, stated that he has never requested special treatment or protection due to his belonging to a Scheduled Caste community. “You treat me as untouchable, perform purification and insult me,” he asserted. He further questioned the implications of such acts on the nation’s commitment to democracy, demanding accountability from those involved in the ritual and calling for their arrest.

In response to Kharge’s accusations, Union Minister JP Nadda categorically denied any BJP affiliation with the group responsible for the purification ceremony. He expressed regret over the incident, stating it was unfortunate not just for the Congress party, but for all political entities. “We will investigate this. I condemn this,” Nadda remarked, emphasizing his disapproval of the actions that have hurt Kharge’s sentiments.

The ritual, reportedly conducted by a group known as Shri Ram Sena, has sparked controversy regarding its ties to the BJP. The Congress’ Uttarakhand unit has claimed that this group is aligned with the ruling party, further intensifying the ongoing rivalry between the two political factions.
