Uttar Pradesh College Cancels Rahul Gandhi’s Student Interaction Event Amid Controversy

The administration of a college in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, has withdrawn permission for an event featuring Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, which was intended to address critical issues concerning students, including paper leaks and examination irregularities. The event, titled ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ or ‘Call of Students,’ was part of a broader initiative by the Congress party aimed at promoting accountability in the educational sector.

Scheduled for August 8 at the sports ground of KP College, the cancellation has drawn attention due to its political implications. The acting president of the Kayastha Pathshala Trust, which oversees the college, cited an Allahabad High Court ruling from August 2025 that restricts the utilization of the grounds strictly to sports and educational purposes. Additionally, the trust mentioned recent waterlogging issues caused by heavy rainfall as another reason behind the decision to revoke the event’s permission.

Despite the cancellation, Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai has stated that Rahul Gandhi is expected to visit Prayagraj on the same date to engage with students. Rai has called on the state government and local authorities to facilitate an alternate venue for the event, asserting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government is deliberately obstructing the gathering for political motives, indicating a sense of apprehension regarding Gandhi’s influence among the student community.

This incident follows a series of similar interactions Gandhi has held with students across various states, including Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, where he has taken the opportunity to connect with the youth and discuss pressing educational issues. The Congress party’s campaign aims to shed light on the challenges faced by students and hold authorities accountable for systemic failures.
