Assam Floods Claim 82 Lives as Relief Efforts Intensify

The devastating impact of floods in Assam has led to a tragic rise in the death toll to 82, as reported by the state disaster management authority on Friday. The district of Sivasagar has borne the brunt of the calamity, recording the highest fatalities at 42. Charaideo and Jorhat follow with 21 and 9 deaths, respectively. Additionally, two individuals remain unaccounted for in Sivasagar and Dhemaji districts, intensifying concerns among local authorities and families.

While the flood situation shows signs of improvement, approximately 190,000 residents across Sivasagar, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, and Charaideo districts continue to face the aftermath of these severe weather events. The disaster management agency indicates that since late April, floods have affected a total of 25 districts, impacting over 1.14 million people in Assam.

In response to the ongoing crisis, relief operations are expanding. The government has established 1,811 relief distribution centers, working tirelessly to provide essential supplies and aid to those affected.
