Kolkata, June 20: The Trinamool Congress has alleged that an attempt was made on Friday to attack the party’s national general secretary and Member of Parliament, Abhishek Banerjee, at Kolkata Airport. One individual has reportedly been detained in connection with the incident.
According to the party, while Abhishek Banerjee was arriving at the airport, supporters and well-wishers who had gathered to receive him noticed suspicious behavior by an individual in the crowd. Several people present then attempted to restrain the person. It was subsequently alleged that the individual was carrying a firearm.
Eyewitnesses said that tensions escalated following the incident, and some supporters confronted the man. Police personnel deployed at the airport later arrived at the scene, brought the situation under control, and took the individual into custody.
However, authorities have not yet officially confirmed the allegations against the detained person or whether any firearm was actually recovered from him. According to sources, an investigation into the matter is currently underway.
The Trinamool Congress has called for a thorough investigation into the incident, while police are reportedly examining all aspects of the case
