The Delhi High Court has opted not to expedite a plea that sought preventive measures concerning a protest organized by the satirical political group, Cockroach Janta Party, which is slated to occur on Saturday. The petition, brought forth by the Save India Foundation, a Delhi-based activist organization, requested that the court direct both the Union government and law enforcement agencies to implement regulatory steps to maintain public order during the demonstration.
The protest was initiated by Abhijit Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, primarily to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. This call for action arose following the controversial cancellation of the undergraduate National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for medical college admissions, which was reportedly linked to a paper leak scandal.
In their argument presented to the court, the Save India Foundation stressed that an unregulated protest could potentially jeopardize public safety, disrupt traffic, and challenge overall security in the capital. They raised concerns about certain online materials associated with the protest, which allegedly contained provocative content, threats to disrupt law enforcement activities, and calls for interference with public infrastructure.
The case was brought before a vacation bench comprising Justices Saurabh Banerjee and Amit Sharma on Friday. However, the bench decided against hearing the case on an urgent basis, leaving the petitioners without immediate recourse ahead of the planned demonstration.
The Cockroach Janta Party, which identifies itself as a political movement for the youth, has gained attention for its unconventional approach to political activism. As tensions rise surrounding educational policies and governance, this protest highlights the growing frustrations among students and activists regarding the management of critical examinations and educational frameworks.
