In a startling turn of events, two low-intensity explosions were reported in Punjab on Tuesday night, creating a sense of unease in the region. The explosions occurred near military installations in Jalandhar and Amritsar, raising questions about security and safety in the area.
The first incident transpired around 8 PM near the Punjab Frontier headquarters of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Jalandhar. According to local residents, a parked scooter suddenly caught fire, followed by a loud blast that echoed in the vicinity. Early assessments from unidentified police officials suggest that it remains unclear whether the incident was a result of an explosion or a simple accidental fire. Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur indicated that while initial findings pointed towards the vehicle catching fire, investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause.
Just a few hours later, at approximately 10:50 PM, a second explosion was reported near the Khasa cantonment area in Amritsar. The loud noise prompted immediate responses from local police and Army personnel. Amritsar Rural Senior Superintendent of Police Sohail Qasim Mir provided updates, confirming that a tin sheet attached to the cantonment’s boundary wall was found damaged, having collapsed as a result of the suspected blast. Preliminary investigations suggest that an object may have been thrown at the wall, resulting in the small explosion. Thankfully, no injuries or extensive damage were reported in either incident.
In light of these occurrences, law enforcement agencies have stepped up their efforts to investigate the incidents thoroughly. Superintendent of Police Aditya S Warrier stated that bomb disposal and forensic teams have been dispatched to the respective sites to gather evidence and ascertain the nature of the explosions. With tensions already high due to the volatile security situation in the region, the authorities are under pressure to ensure public safety and maintain order.
These incidents highlight ongoing concerns regarding security near military installations in Punjab, a state that has seen its share of unrest in the past. The local populace is advised to remain vigilant, and law enforcement agencies are urging residents to report any suspicious activities. As investigations continue, the focus remains on uncovering the motives behind these blasts and ensuring that such events do not recur.
