India Rejects Pakistan’s ‘Day of Exploitation’ Observance as Political Absurdity

The Indian government has taken a firm stance against Pakistan’s designation of August 5 as “Youm-e-Istehsal,” which translates to “Day of Exploitation.” This date marks the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, a constitutional provision that granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) condemned Pakistan’s observance as an act of political absurdity and a deliberate attempt to propagate false narratives against India.

The abrogation of Article 370, executed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government, also resulted in the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir into two separate Union Territories: Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. This move has been a subject of contention between the two nations, with Pakistan expressing ongoing concern regarding the status of the Kashmiri people.

Recently, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar stated that India’s decision poses a “grave challenge” to existing international norms and expressed solidarity with the residents of Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized Pakistan’s continued support for the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people, which he claims are enshrined in the United Nations Charter and aligned with relevant UN Security Council resolutions. The remarks indicate Pakistan’s attempt to garner international attention and support regarding the Kashmir issue.

Responding to these comments, Indian MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated that the abrogation of Article 370 is an internal matter for India and asserted that Pakistan has no jurisdiction to comment on India’s domestic affairs. He further categorized Pakistan as the “global epicenter of terrorism,” underscoring India’s concerns about its neighbor’s role in regional instability.

The conflict over Kashmir has a long and complex history, with both countries claiming the territory in its entirety. The situation remains a flashpoint in India-Pakistan relations, and the observance of August 5 by Pakistan adds another layer to this fraught narrative. As India continues to address challenges related to Jammu and Kashmir, the international community remains watchful of both nations’ actions and rhetoric surrounding this sensitive issue.
