Congress Stands with Jharkhand Students Amid Protests Over Civil Services Exam Irregularities

The Congress party has expressed its solidarity with the students who are currently protesting against alleged discrepancies in the Jharkhand civil service examinations. This comes after the students have been vocal about their grievances regarding the conduct of the exams, which many believe were marred by irregularities. The Congress is a partner in the ruling coalition led by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha government.

K. Raju, who oversees the All India Congress Committee’s affairs in Jharkhand, along with other party leaders, met with Chief Minister Hemant Soren to discuss the students’ issues. During this meeting, they submitted a memorandum that outlines the demands put forth by the protesting students. In response to the unrest, the state government has established a four-member ministerial committee tasked with engaging in dialogue with the demonstrators.

Congress MP Pramod Tiwari, while addressing the media, emphasized the party’s commitment to supporting the legitimate demands of the students. He remarked, “We fully support every legitimate demand of the students.” Tiwari further drew a contrast between the police’s handling of protests in Jharkhand and similar demonstrations in Delhi, stating that in Jharkhand, the protests had not escalated to the use of excessive force, such as nail-studded batons or pellet guns.

The protests, which began on July 25, were sparked by widespread discontent regarding the management of competitive examinations across the country. The students have been staging a sit-in at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi, where several participants have gone on hunger strikes to amplify their message. Their primary demand includes the cancellation of the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission Combined Preliminary Test, which took place on April 19.

Additionally, the protesters are calling for independent investigations by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to look into the alleged irregularities in the recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission. As the protests continue, the situation remains tense, and it highlights the growing frustration among youth regarding employment opportunities and fairness in the examination process.
