Telangana Electoral Roll Revision Deadline Extended to August 10

The Election Commission of India has announced an extension of the enumeration deadline for the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Telangana, pushing it back to August 10, as reported by ANI. This marks the second extension for the state, highlighting the ongoing efforts to ensure a thorough and accurate voter list ahead of the upcoming elections.

Initially set for July 24, the deadline had already been postponed to August 3, but the commission decided to grant an additional week to booth-level officers to complete the essential house-to-house verification of voters. This process is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the electoral system and ensuring that every eligible voter is accurately represented in the electoral rolls.

With the revised timeline, the draft voter list for Telangana is now scheduled to be published on August 17, a week later than originally planned. Citizens who find discrepancies or wish to raise objections regarding their inclusion in the draft list will have the opportunity to do so between August 17 and September 16. The Election Commission will address these claims until October 15, with the final electoral roll set to be published by October 19.

As of the latest reports, the digitization of enumeration forms in Telangana has reached an impressive 77%, indicating a significant push towards modernizing the electoral process. In Hyderabad, the digitization rate stands at 56.3%, while Yadadri Bhongiri district boasts the highest rate in the state at 94.2%, followed closely by Jangaon at 91.4%. Such progress reflects the commitment of the Election Commission to enhance voter accessibility and streamline the electoral process.

Telangana is one of 16 states currently undergoing voter roll revisions as part of the third phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiative. This extensive nationwide effort began in Bihar in 2025 and was subsequently expanded to 12 additional states and Union Territories later that year. Through these revisions, the Election Commission aims to ensure that the electoral process remains fair and transparent, thereby strengthening India’s democratic framework.
