In a poignant tribute to the valor and sacrifice of its armed forces, the names of six military personnel who lost their lives during the recently conducted Operation Sindoor have been officially unveiled for the first time. The disclosure was made public on Friday, with the names listed in the Roll of Honour section of the National War Memorial’s official website.
The fallen soldiers include five members of the Indian Army—Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, Rifleman Sunil Kumar, Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar, Agniveer Murali Naik, and Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh—and one air force staffer, Sergeant Surendra Kumar. Their sacrifice was part of a larger response by the Indian military to escalating tensions following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack that took place on April 22, 2025, claiming the lives of 26 people.
Operation Sindoor, executed on May 7, 2025, involved precise strikes targeting suspected terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This operation was a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict, reflecting India’s commitment to counter-terrorism efforts in the region. Following the operation, a temporary understanding was reached between India and Pakistan to cease hostilities, effective from May 10, 2025. This development was seen as a glimmer of hope for peace amid a backdrop of frequent military confrontations.
The names of these brave soldiers will not only be preserved in the annals of military history but will also be inscribed on the esteemed “Tyag Chakra” or the “Circle of Sacrifice” at the National War Memorial in Delhi. This memorial serves as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by armed forces personnel since India’s Independence, honoring those who have laid down their lives in the line of duty.
The unveiling of the names comes at a critical time when the nation is reflecting on its military history and the sacrifices made by its soldiers. As the nation pays tribute to these heroes, their legacy will continue to inspire future generations to value the principles of duty, sacrifice, and patriotism.
