District-level Yoga Day event — over 1,500 take part at Police Lines Ground

On Saturday, the district-level celebration of the 12th International Yoga Day was held at the Police Lines Ground in Hoshiarpur, where more than 1,500 people took part in a collective yoga session.
Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain, the chief guest, said yoga is an ancient and proud Indian tradition that has become an effective means of physical, mental and spiritual purification. She added that in today’s fast-paced life and rising stress levels, yoga is a sure remedy that helps keep individuals healthy and steers them away from social evils such as substance abuse.
The Deputy Commissioner noted that the Punjab government is continuously promoting yoga across the state through the “C.M. Di Yogshala” initiative. Yoga classes are being conducted from major cities to block-level centres, where thousands practise regularly. She described the programme as an important step towards making Punjab fit and healthy and urged youth to adopt yoga in their daily lives.
She said the event aimed to build a healthy, disciplined and drug-free society through yoga. Over 1,500 participants demonstrated their commitment to health and discipline by performing yoga together at the Police Lines Ground.
Yoga experts Dr. Rupinderpreet Singh, Dr. Gagan, Dr. Ritu, Dr. Shubham and Amrit explained various asanas, their benefits and methods of practice. The Sonalika Divine organisation’s Nutinder conducted laughter yoga and dance-yoga sessions, which infused the gathering with enthusiasm and renewed energy.
The programme was also attended by officials from various departments, including Assistant Commissioner (General) Dr. Sumit Mudh, SDM Parampreet Singh, SP Manpreet Sheehmar, District Ayurvedic and Unani Officer Dr. Surinder Pal Kaur, Nodal Officer of the Ayurvedic Department Dr. Harish Bhatia, Dr. Karuna Sharma, Assistant Director Youth Services Preet Kohli, and other officers and staff.
