NRI COMMUNITY WANTS EXPERIENCED SAD GOVERNMENT BACK IN PUNJAB/ TONY
Hoshiarpur/ Daljeet Ajnoha/June 11
During his visit to England, Dharminder Kumar Tony, state general secretary of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Trade Wing, said that non-resident Indians (NRIs) want the experienced Shiromani Akali Dal government to return to Punjab, citing communal harmony and the development recorded during its tenure. Tony made the remarks while speaking with members of the Indian diaspora and during a meeting with Gravesend Deputy Mayor Baljit Singh Hary
On arrival in England, Tony received a warm welcome from Deputy Mayor Baljit Singh Hary and the two discussed the political situation in Punjab. Hary acknowledged that many NRIs support the return of the Shiromani Akali Dal to power. He said the diaspora considers the Akali Dal a major political voice for preserving communal bonds, and that older generations of NRIs who remain strongly connected to their roots and culture continue to trust the party’s policies.
Tony raised concerns about a recent rise in illegal occupations of properties belonging to NRI families and growing security worries. He accused the current government of failing to safeguard migrants’ interests and said the diaspora sees the Akali Dal as a strong alternative. Tony added that NRIs want change in the upcoming elections and reiterated the party’s commitment to Punjab’s development and public welfare. He claimed that real progress in the state took place only during the Akali Dal’s rule and described the party as a consistent advocate for the people of Punjab.
Tony appealed for unity to protect Punjab’s interests. Present at the event were Ramandeep Singh Dhillon (Barmingham), Krishna Sahdev and others.
