CJP to Organize Delhi March Demanding Government Accountability on Youth Protests

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced a peaceful march slated for September 5, 2023, starting from India Gate and concluding at the Delhi Police headquarters. This demonstration aims to compel the Union government to fulfill the commitments made during the youth protests that began in June against the alleged mishandling of competitive examinations.

The movement initiated on June 6 when CJP held a protest at Jantar Mantar, demanding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, who was the Union Minister of Education at that time. The situation escalated on July 20, when thousands gathered to voice their grievances. The police response was aggressive, particularly against activist Sonam Wangchuk, who had been on a hunger strike for three weeks. His forcible hospitalization triggered a nationwide outcry and intensified the protests, culminating in a march towards Parliament.

During this march, law enforcement employed lathis, tear gas, and pellet guns to disperse the demonstrators, resulting in numerous injuries. This heavy-handed approach galvanized support for the protesters, leading to a widespread mobilization across the country. Following immense public pressure, Pradhan resigned from his ministerial role on July 25.

In the wake of Pradhan’s resignation, the CJP temporarily suspended their protests, citing that the government had agreed to their primary demands. These included assurances that no punitive actions would be taken against any protester, whether currently or in the future, in any state governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). However, the CJP argues that the central government has since failed to uphold these promises, prompting the upcoming march.

The planned march on September 5 will serve not just as a demonstration of continuing discontent but also as a call for accountability from the Union government regarding its commitments to the youth and the larger issues concerning fairness in competitive examinations.
