Kolkata, June 12: Trinamool Congress MP and party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has reportedly been summoned by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a second round of questioning on Sunday in connection with the alleged signature forgery case.
On Thursday, Banerjee appeared before CID officials at Bhawani Bhavan in Kolkata, where he was questioned for nearly five hours. After the interrogation concluded, he left the CID headquarters and returned directly to his residence.
Meanwhile, the Calcutta High Court has granted Banerjee interim protection for 21 days. The court reportedly directed that no coercive action, including arrest, be taken against him during this period while the matter remains under consideration.
The developments have intensified political discussions in West Bengal, with both the ruling Trinamool Congress and opposition parties closely monitoring the case. Supporters of the ruling party have alleged political motives behind the investigation, while opposition leaders have called for a fair and impartial probe.
The investigation is ongoing, and no final conclusions have been announced by the authorities.
