Tej Pratap Yadav Faces 14-Day Judicial Custody Following Patna Protest Violence

Tej Pratap Yadav, the leader of the Janshakti Janata Dal and son of prominent political figure Lalu Prasad Yadav, has been ordered to spend 14 days in judicial custody by a Patna court after his involvement in violent protests on Saturday. The demonstrations were part of a larger national outcry regarding alleged discrepancies in competitive examinations, specifically calling for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The protests in Patna drew significant attention as they mirrored a similar movement in Delhi where young aspirants expressed their frustrations over suspected paper leaks. Pradhan, amidst mounting pressure, resigned later that day, signaling the weight of the allegations against him.

Upon his arrest, Yadav was swiftly presented before a judicial magistrate just after midnight. Following the court’s decision to remand him, he was relocated to Beur Central Jail. His legal counsel indicated that they plan to file a regular bail application on the upcoming Monday, highlighting the swift legal maneuvers surrounding this high-profile case.

The First Information Report (FIR) filed against Yadav includes serious charges such as rioting, assaulting police officers, damaging property, and obstructing public officials in the execution of their duties.
