In a significant political development, former Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha officially launched her new political party, Telangana Rashtra Sena, on Saturday. This announcement came just months after she resigned from the BRS and vacated her position in the Telangana Legislative Council on September 3. Her resignation followed her suspension from the party by her father and BRS chief, K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), amid allegations of anti-party activities.
The name of Kavitha’s newly formed party, Telangana Rashtra Sena, closely mirrors the former name of BRS, which was originally known as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). This rebranding appears to be a strategic move that underscores her commitment to the cause of Telangana, a sentiment that resonates strongly with the state’s populace. Kavitha had hinted at her political aspirations earlier this year, announcing her intention to transform Telangana Jagruthi, a cultural and social organization she founded in 2006, into a political entity ready to contest in the upcoming Assembly elections.
The anticipated elections in Telangana are likely to take place in either 2028 or 2029, offering Kavitha a substantial timeline to consolidate her political base. During the launch event held on the outskirts of Hyderabad, she did not hold back in her criticism of the current ruling party, Congress, along with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and her former party, BRS. Kavitha accused all three parties of being entrenched in corruption, favoritism, and a tendency towards “family rule.”
In her address, she articulated that KCR, once hailed as the leader who championed the struggle for a separate Telangana, has strayed far from those ideals. “The KCR we saw during the Telangana movement is no longer there,” she stated, implying that the current administration has lost touch with the grassroots concerns of the people. Kavitha’s remarks reflect a growing disenchantment among certain sections of the electorate, who feel that the promises made during the statehood movement have not been fulfilled.
K Kavitha’s entry into the political arena with Telangana Rashtra Sena is seen as a pivotal moment in Telangana politics. As she prepares for the challenges ahead, it remains to be seen how her party will navigate the complex political landscape of the state and address the aspirations of the citizens who yearn for accountable governance and transparency.
