In a troubling incident that has sparked outrage among the biking community, a man identified as Kalyan Bainsla was arrested in Rajasthan on Tuesday for allegedly ramming his car into a woman biker in Gurugram. The arrest followed a suo motu case registered by the Gurugram Police after the victim shared shocking footage of the incident on social media, drawing widespread attention.
The incident occurred on Sunday when the woman, who operates an Instagram account under the name “rebelwheels_sia_”, was riding with her biking group. According to her claims, she was being pursued by a white car for a considerable distance. Despite her attempts to signal the driver to maintain a safe distance, the car reportedly continued to tail her before forcefully colliding with her two-wheeler, resulting in her being thrown off the bike.
Initial reports suggested that the police were investigating the case as one of rash driving. However, as more details emerged, authorities escalated the charges to include attempted murder in the first information report (FIR). The woman biker expressed her determination to file a formal complaint with police, highlighting her concerns for safety on the roads, especially as a woman rider.
In a surprising twist, the owner of the vehicle, identified as Manish, stated that he had lent his car to Bainsla two days prior to the incident. In an interview with India Today, Bainsla denied any intention to harm, claiming that the crash was not deliberate. Nevertheless, the police have made it clear that they will thoroughly investigate the matter, and the evidence captured from the action camera mounted on the woman’s bike will play a crucial role in the ongoing inquiry.
This incident not only raises questions about road safety but also reflects the growing concerns regarding the treatment of women riders in India. Various biking communities have rallied around the victim, advocating for stronger laws to protect women on the roads. As this case unfolds, it serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for improved awareness and safety measures for all road users.
