The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially named former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray, and his son, MLA Aaditya Thackeray, in the First Information Report (FIR) pertaining to the death of Disha Salian, the former manager of late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. This development was reported on Monday, raising significant questions about the circumstances surrounding Salian’s tragic demise.
Alongside the Thackerays, the FIR also identifies several high-profile individuals including actors Dino Morea, Rhea Chakraborty, and Sooraj Pancholi, as well as former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh and suspended officer Sachin Vaze. Disha Salian’s death, which occurred on June 8, 2020, has been shrouded in controversy, especially following the untimely death of Rajput just six days later.
Initially, the police investigated Salian’s case and closed it in 2021, concluding that there was no evidence of foul play. However, her father, Satish Salian, contested this decision and filed a petition in March 2025, calling for a CBI investigation into what he described as a suspicious death. In his petition, he alleged that his daughter had been the victim of gang rape and murder, asserting that there had been an orchestrated effort to protect influential persons involved in the case.
Satish Salian expressed his growing concerns about the integrity of the investigation, stating that he initially believed it was being conducted transparently, only to later feel that a cover-up was in operation. He highlighted a perceived political influence that could be shielding key individuals from accountability. In response to his claims, a division bench of the Bombay High Court mandated the CBI to register the FIR based on Salian’s statement, emphasizing the necessity of a thorough investigation.
This recent turn of events has reignited public interest in both Disha Salian’s case and the broader implications surrounding Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely death. As the CBI moves forward with its investigation, the scrutiny on the involvement of prominent figures in Maharashtra’s political landscape is likely to intensify, further complicating an already intricate narrative involving power, celebrity, and justice in India.
